Future & Current

  • Fall session of ground school just wrapped up, winter/spring ground school dates will be announced.

  • November’s student of the month is Rob Southard! Rob has been a joy to fly with, as he is a hard worker, and has a vast amount of prior aviation knowledge! He is currently attending Siena Heights, for a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in aviation maintenance.

He hopes to graduate in the summer. Rob spent his summer based out of KSAW with the rest of the Selfridge Air National Guard Unit. He is currently a mechanic for them, which has moved him far ahead in the ground knowledge portion of his training. His goal is to fly for his unit, who flies the KC-135. Rob was extremely successful over the last few months, as he knocked out his solo cross countries, written exam, night flights, and completed ground school. All were successful and he is currently in his final checkride prep phases. Hoping to have a checkride early January. It is easy to tell that Rob is going to go many places with his aviation journey, as flying comes with ease for him. It will be fun to see all the things he accomplishes! Rob also has a passion for photography and always keeps his camera with him, ready to capture any opportunity for a great shot. Pictured above is an incredible photo Rob took this summer during a solar storm of a KC-135 with the northern lights. This photo was shared all around the internet, and I can confirm, it’s amazing. He deserves all the credit!! Best of luck to Rob in all his future endeavors!
